Coast FIRE Planner

About Coast FIRE Planner

Free, honest calculators for the question most retirement tools skip: when can I stop saving?

Why we built it

Coast FIRE is a simple idea: once you have enough invested, growth alone can carry it to your retirement number, and you can stop saving for later. Most Coast FIRE calculators stop at one number, the amount you need invested today. That number is useful, but it doesn't answer the questions people actually ask next: When will I get there? How sure can I be? What would change it?

Coast FIRE Planner answers those questions with the same care we'd want for our own money.

What's different

  • A date, not just a number. The Coast FIRE calculator shows the month you can stop saving, stepping your portfolio forward month by month.
  • Odds of success. We run 1,000 simulated markets so you can see how often stopping at your coast date actually works, and how much a few extra years of saving helps.
  • What-ifs. See how saving more, retiring later, lower returns or higher fees move your date.
  • Fees and raises. Investment fees and growing contributions change the answer by years, so you can enter both.
  • Share links. Every result has a link that reopens it with your numbers, so you can compare plans with a partner.

Our principles

  • Free, with no sign-up. Every calculator works without an account.
  • Your numbers stay in your browser. Calculations run on your device. We don't store what you type. See our privacy policy for the details.
  • Show the math. Every formula and assumption is written out on our methodology page.
  • Plain language. No jargon where a normal word works, and no hype about getting rich.

Who runs the site

Coast FIRE Planner is an independent site built and run from Ontario, Canada. It isn't owned by a bank, brokerage, fund company or financial adviser, and nobody pays us to recommend a product.

We're not licensed financial advisers, and nothing on this site is financial, tax or legal advice. The calculators show what happens under the assumptions you choose. For decisions about your own situation, talk to a qualified professional.

How we make money

Right now, we don't. To keep the calculators free over time, we may show display ads (for example, from Google AdSense) and include affiliate links to products we think are genuinely useful, such as low-fee brokerages. If we earn a commission when you sign up through one of those links, it costs you nothing extra.

If we add either, these rules apply:

  • Ads never appear above or inside a calculator.
  • Affiliate links are labelled where they appear.
  • No advertiser or partner can change a calculator's results or what we write about them.
