Coast FIRE Planner

Privacy policy

Effective October 6, 2026

This policy explains what information Coast FIRE Planner ("we", "us") collects when you use coastfireplanner.com, how we use it and the choices you have. Coast FIRE Planner is run from Ontario, Canada.

Summary

  • The calculators run in your browser. We don't receive or store the numbers you type.
  • You don't need an account, and we don't ask for your name.
  • We don't set cookies today. If we add analytics or ads, we'll update this policy first and ask for consent where the law requires it.
  • We don't sell your personal information.

Numbers you enter

Calculations happen on your device. As you change an input, the calculator writes your numbers into the page's web address (for example, ?a=40&m=2000) so you can bookmark or share the result. Updating the address this way doesn't send anything to us.

If you open, reload or share a link that contains your numbers, those numbers travel with the request like any other part of a web address, so our hosting provider receives them (see below). The link doesn't include your name, email or anything else that identifies you. Anyone you send a share link to can see the numbers in it.

Hosting and server logs

The site is hosted by Cloudflare, Inc. Like any web host, Cloudflare processes technical information to deliver pages and protect the site from attacks: your IP address, browser type, the page requested, the referring page and the time of the request. We use this information only to run and secure the site, and we don't use it to identify you. See Cloudflare's privacy policy.

Cookies and analytics

We don't set cookies or use analytics today. If we add a privacy-focused analytics tool to learn which pages are useful, we will name the provider here, describe what it collects and, where required, ask for your consent before it runs. You can block or delete cookies at any time in your browser settings.

Advertising

To keep the site free, we plan to show ads served by Google AdSense. When ads are switched on, the following applies:

  • Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on your previous visits to this site and other websites.
  • Google's use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to you based on your visits to this site and/or other sites on the internet.
  • You can opt out of personalized advertising by visiting Google's Ads Settings, or opt out of some third-party vendors' use of cookies for personalized advertising at aboutads.info.
  • Visitors in the European Economic Area, the UK and Switzerland will be asked for consent before personalized ads or advertising cookies are used.

Learn more in How Google uses information from sites that use its services. We may also include affiliate links. Following one may let the partner know you came from our site; see how we make money.

Email reminders

The "Remind me on my coast date" form isn't switched on yet, and it doesn't save anything you enter. When we launch reminders:

  • We'll store your email address and, only if you tick the box, the numbers needed to recalculate your coast date.
  • We'll use them only to send the reminders and yearly check-ins you asked for.
  • Every email will include a one-click unsubscribe link, and you can ask us to delete your data at any time.
  • We'll name the email provider we use here before the form goes live.

Who we share data with

We share information only with service providers that help us run the site, such as Cloudflare for hosting and, once ads are on, Google for advertising, or when the law requires it. We don't sell or rent your personal information. Our providers may process information in the United States, Canada or other countries, which may have different data protection rules than where you live.

Your rights

Depending on where you live, including Canada (PIPEDA), the EU and UK (GDPR) and California (CCPA/CPRA), you may have the right to access, correct or delete personal information we hold about you, to withdraw consent, to object to certain uses and to opt out of the sale or sharing of personal information. Because we keep so little, there is usually nothing tied to you, but we'll answer every request. Email hello@coastfireplanner.com and we'll respond within 30 days.

You can also complain to your local data protection authority. In Canada, that's the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada.

Keeping and protecting data

Server logs are kept only as long as our host needs them for security and operations. Reminder data, once that feature exists, will be kept until you unsubscribe or ask us to delete it. The site is served only over encrypted HTTPS connections.

Children

This site is meant for adults planning their finances. It isn't directed at children under 16, and we don't knowingly collect their personal information.

Changes to this policy

We'll update this policy when we add a feature that changes what we collect, such as ads, analytics or email reminders, and change the effective date at the top of the page.
