Terms of use
Effective October 6, 2026
Using the site
These terms apply to coastfireplanner.com and its calculators and guides (the "site"), run by Coast FIRE Planner ("we", "us"). By using the site, you agree to them. If you don't agree, please don't use the site. Our privacy policy explains how we handle information.
Not financial advice
The site is for education and general information only. Nothing on it is financial, investment, tax, legal or retirement advice, or a recommendation to buy or sell any product. We aren't licensed financial advisers and we don't know your full situation. Before making financial decisions, consider talking to a qualified professional.
Results are estimates
The calculators show what would happen under the assumptions you enter, such as returns, inflation, fees and spending. Real markets, tax rules and lives don't follow assumptions. Past performance doesn't guarantee future results, and the odds of success are a model, not a promise. We explain our formulas and their limits on our methodology page. You're responsible for how you use the results.
Acceptable use
Please don't:
- attack, overload or try to break into the site or the systems behind it;
- scrape or copy the site in bulk, or republish our guides or tools as your own;
- use the site in a way that breaks the law or harms others.
Linking to any page, and sharing your own results, is always welcome.
Our content
The site's text, design, calculators and logo belong to Coast FIRE Planner. You may quote short passages with a link back to the page. Anything else needs our written permission.
Links, ads and affiliates
The site may link to other websites, show ads from third parties and include affiliate links (see how we make money). We don't control those sites or products and aren't responsible for their content, offers or privacy practices. A link or ad isn't an endorsement.
No warranty
We work hard to keep the calculators accurate, but the site is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, including accuracy, completeness, fitness for a particular purpose or uninterrupted availability, to the extent the law allows.
Limitation of liability
To the extent the law allows, Coast FIRE Planner isn't liable for any loss or damage arising from your use of the site or reliance on its results, including investment losses or lost profits. Some places don't allow these limits, so they may not all apply to you. Nothing in these terms limits rights you have under consumer protection laws that can't be waived.
Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the Province of Ontario and the federal laws of Canada that apply there, unless the consumer protection laws of the place you live say otherwise.
Changes
We may update these terms as the site grows. We'll change the effective date at the top when we do. Continuing to use the site after a change means you accept the updated terms.
